Direct Laryngoscopy

A direct laryngoscopy allows visualization of the larynx. It is used during general anesthesia, surgical procedures around the larynx, and resuscitation. This tool is useful in multiple hospital settings, from the emergency department to the intensive care unit and the operating room.

Direct laryngoscopy is done in an operating room and your child will be put under general anesthesia and not feel the scope in the throat. If needed, the doctor will remove foreign objects from the throat, collect tissue samples, perform laser treatment, or remove growths from the vocal cords.
